Job summary

We are looking for a Ward Manager on our friendly Surgical Assessment and Treatment Unit on a fixed term full time basis.

You will lead a diverse team caring for surgical patients on the emergency pathway. Ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, compassionate care.

You will manage all aspects of clinical governance, including financial management, training and development, infection prevention, clinical audit and patient experience.

Ensuring the Nursing voice is heard within the MDT and at all levels within the trust leadership structure

SATU is part of Broomfield hospital, which is in turn part of the Mid and South Essex Hospitals group. The SATU team are inclusive and welcoming, with a strong focus on teamwork and striving for excellence in patient care.

Main duties of the job

The Ward Manager focuses on the delivery of high quality, safe and effective care focused on improving outcomes and experiences for patients, families and carers.

Nurses/Midwives in this role will:

  • Have continuous responsibility for a defined clinical area;
  • Be the key contact member for the multidisciplinary team
  • Provide professional leadership and line management for a team of nursing/midwifery and support staff;
  • Delegate work and supervise colleagues accordingly;
  • Assess patients, plan, implement and evaluate evidence based care;
  • Provide expert clinical advice;
  • Ensure patient pathways are optimally managed;
  • Manage budgets and resources efficiently and effectively;
  • Be responsible for the safety of the clinical environment;
  • Champion a culture of learning and quality improvement in the clinical
  • Ensure his/her group of patients have a managed pathway and beds in the ward are optimally utilised, seeking expert support if required.
