Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic colleague to join our friendly, dynamic Diabetes and Endocrinology team. The successful candidate will join an established innovative team of Consultants, Junior Doctors and Specialist Nurses.

The post holder will work across two of our sites, Basildon Hospital and Broomfield Hospital, performing a blend of Diabetes and Endocrinology clinics, as well as supporting colleagues with general inpatient in-reach. The post holder will work with colleagues to support and develop the Diabetes and Endocrinology services for the benefit of our local population.

We would fully support the successful candidate in developing an area of specialist interest, linked to the current needs of the service.

Main duties of the job

This post is for a whole time equivalent Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology. The post holder will be expected to work across both Basildon and Broomfield Hospitals, performing five outpatient clinics per week, and one main ward review session. The post holder will also support inpatient in-reach, providing expert assessment and advice for Diabetes and Endocrinology patients to General and Acute colleagues.

The post holder will be expected to undertake electronic triaging of new outpatient referrals and review and respond to advice and guidance requests.

Across the sites we currently support a wide range of sub-interests within the field of diabetes and endocrinology, and there is an excellent mix of clinical work within the proposed job plan.

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Full MRCP (UK) or equivalent qualification
  • Full GMC registration
  • Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register for Endocrinology and Diabetes Mellitus or within 6 months of CCT

Desirable

  • Entry on the General Medical Council (GMC) Specialist Register for Endocrinology and Diabetes Mellitus or within 6 months of CCT

Knowledge

Essential

  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in Endocrinology & Diabetes Mellitus, with General (Internal) Medicine or Acute (Internal Medicine)

Desirable

  • Evidence of presentations or papers in Diabetes and Endocrinology and/or General /Acute Medicine.

Skills

Essential

  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems both emergency and elective within the specialty.
