Job summary
Your role will be to provide a specialist safe, secure, effective and comprehensive mortuary and post-mortem service for the needs of Mid & South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, Pathologists, Coroner and the Community on the Broomfield Hospital site.
You will be required to manage the day-to-day support and supervision of both the APT and Trainee APT, to hold both the Certificate and the Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology; work unsupervised and perform a broad range of duties providing an expert level of theoretical and practical knowledge and experience.
You must demonstrate your Continuing Professional Development (CPD) including course attendance and reflective learning as well as applying your knowledge of the laws and codes of practice relating to the Mortuary and all aspects of its function, being responsible for ensuring that full implementation of licencing and regulatory requirements are met and communicate and liaise with clinical and non-clinical Trust staff, Chaplaincy, HM Coroners, Police and Funeral Directors to ensure delivery of a professional and efficient mortuary service.
Main duties of the job
In this interesting and varied role, you will have responsibility for the line management and supervision of site-based Mortuary Service, providing strong leadership to all staff and budget and financial management within defined budget allocation.
You will act as a professional role model engaging all staff in the Trust values, maintaining patient/relative privacy, dignity and respect at all times ensuring positive relative experience in all aspects of after life care, sharing good practice within the Mortuary, CSU and Trust wide and ensuring staff/deceased and bereaved relatives' safety at all times.
You will have overarching responsibility for the designation and storage of the deceased and be responsible for ordering and purchasing equipment, recording and overseeing lawful disposal of human tissue, products of conception and Police Forensic exhibits and logging, upholding the Human Tissue Authority Licence safe storage and return of deceased patients' property.
Your role will involve the Formulation of Service Level Agreements in relation to transport of the deceased and the provision of service to Essex County Council for the Coroners service along with participation and engagement re external visits to the Mortuary, for example, Care Quality Commission Integrated Care Systems.
