An exciting opportunity has arisen for a role within the Anticoagulant Clinic at St Luke's Hospital. The Anticoagulant Clinic has approximately 10,000 attendances each year and provides an excellent patient centred service to its patients.

We are looking for a dynamic, reliable and empathetic individual to join the team to ensure that we can continue to offer our patients the service they expect and deserve.

Main duties of the job

The work will include a great deal of patient contact over the phone as well as in person in clinic, rearranging patients appointments and escalating clinical queries to the team in clinic as required, ensuring that all DNAs are reviewed in a timely manner to ensure ongoing patient safety, ensuring effective stock control, ensuring that the annual reviews for all the patients are processed efficiently, training other members of staff to carry out point of care testing and other tasks to ensure smooth running of the clinic.

You must be an excellent communicator with outstanding interpersonal and relationship building skills. You will need to be forward thinking and enthusiastic, with a commitment to continuing professional development. BTHFT is a teaching hospital and Pharmacy demonstrate a significant commitment to training; the successful candidate can expect a supportive training programme.

The ideal candidate will need to be dedicated and hardworking and have a willingness to be flexible when necessary. There is a strong management focus on staff wellbeing and support within the team, the outcome being that the team is highly-functioning, fun, friendly and supportive of all colleagues.

The successful candidate will hold the NVQ 2 in Pharmacy Services, or in process of undertaking training to obtain NVQ level 2 in Pharmacy Services. The candidate will be paid on Annex 21 whilst training, which is 75% of the top of band 3.

  • To provide the Pharmacy Anticoagulation Clinic with comprehensive high quality administration support in order to facilitate safe, effective anticoagulation services and optimise patient care.
  • To assist with the prioritisation and organisation of the clinics administration workload under the guidance of the Specialist Pharmacy Technician - Anticoagulation Clinic, Lead Pharmacist Anticoagulant Clinic or Assistant Director of Pharmacy - Clinical Services.
  • To provide administration support to ensure that staff can respond to changes in demand, keeping the waiting times within acceptable time limits.
  • To be able to collate information for Specialist Pharmacy Technician - Anticoagulation Clinic , the Lead Pharmacist Anticoagulant Clinic or Assistant Director of Pharmacy - Clinical Services as required.
  • Dealing with and prioritising incoming and outgoing mail and ensuring it is filed in an efficient and appropriate manner.
  • Liaising with ambulance control to arrange the appropriate transport for the patients attending clinic and ensuring that hospital transport is utilised efficiently by cancelling transport for changed and cancelled appointments and following up on patients not available when transport is arranged for them.
  • To carry out the POCT role within clinic and to lead on the training of other pharmacy staff to cover the POCT role.
