We are seeking a highly skilled Speech and Language Therapist to join our small and friendly Macmillan Head and Neck Cancer (HNC) service which sits under the Acute Inpatient Adult SALT service at BTHFT. Our service covers pre-treatment clinics, the HNC surgical ward, and follow-up rehabilitation clinics. We are a HNC Surgical Cancer Centre for patients from Bradford, Airedale, Calderdale and Huddersfield. You will join a supportive Band 7 Highly Specialist HNC Speech and Language Therapist, who is skilled in surgical voice restoration, nasoendoscopy, Fibreoptic Endoscopic Examination of Swallowing (FEES) and Videofluoroscopic Swallowing Studies (VFSS).

Main duties of the job

This role will involve managing a small, but varied caseload on the HNC ward following surgery, including those with dysphagia, laryngectomy and dysphonia. You will also be required to attend or rotate attendance at the weekly MDT and oncology clinics as per national guidance and GIRFT recommendations. You would also be involved in managing laryngectomy out-patient sessions including stoma care, voice prosthesis management (SVR) and communication therapy. We have excellent links with the MDT, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Dietitians, Max facs, plastics, ENT, local Speech and Language Therapy teams and our oncologists based at the regional Cancer Centre at Leeds. You will benefit from peer support, supervision and training as required, both with the wider Head and Neck team and the larger acute inpatient Speech Therapy team.

Dysphagia, voice, and VFES competencies are essential to this post, ideally but not exclusively gained within a head and neck caseload. SVR and FEES competencies would be desirable but if you do not possess these you would be supported with a combination of external and in house training to achieve them.

The role is likely to involve some split-site working across Bradford Royal Infirmary (BRI) and St Luke's hospital.

There may be the opportunity to become adopted by Macmillan and to access the resources they have to offer adopted professionals.

We welcome conversations to discuss the role and visits to the department prior to applying.
