Job responsibilities
6. PRIMARY DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
To provide high standards of patient care at all times.
Able to work on own initiative, providing high standards of patient care at all times.
Participates in the nurse led weekly clinic, which focuses on the needs of patients requiring fixed appliances.
Prepare clinic for surgery and reviews, with the correct investigations, blood results, scans, x-rays and patient models correctly.
Carry out duties within the Trust policy framework.
Assists in supervising and teaching new members of staff within the department.
Preparation of patients, instrumentation and surgeries for clinical surgical work, maintaining high standards of cross infection, cleaning of surgeries and sterilisation of equipment.
Welcome and prepare patients for treatment.
Document treatment information on the Electronic Patient Records (EPR) system, preparation of materials.
Assist medical / dental staff at the chairside.
Be aware of individual responsibility under the Health & Safety Legislation. Report any practice or occurrence which may be detrimental to the wellbeing of patients, visitors or staff.
Attend mandatory training days such as Health & Safety on an annual basis.
Follow high standards of infection prevention and control
Be aware of Complaints Policy and report appropriately any untoward occurrence in relation to this.
Complies with requirements of CNST.
Follow clinical risk incident procedure and reporting systems. Participates in Trust Clinical Governance Agenda.
Completes Individual Performance Review and Personal Development Plan.
Participates and provides Clinical Supervision.
Routine collection of audits, data and statistics in relation to clinical and non-clinical topics.
Initiate audits to help improve patient experience activities.
Foster good relationships with the multidisciplinary team, patients and visitors to the department.
Collaborate and liaise with other members of the multidisciplinary team.
Attend unit meetings, team briefs etc.
Assist in organising clinics to ensure that they are fully utilised and run efficiently.
Be involved in the implementation of new initiatives.
Be prepared to present topics of interest, feedback from study days to colleagues when required.
Work flexibly to meet the requirements of the service.
Act as key worker when required.
Develop digital x-rays.
Participate in health education and health promotion. Give patients post operative treatment instructions.
Participate in extending skills of clinical practice when appropriate taking intra oral radiographs skills, assist with sedation of patients.
Such duties at a comparable level of responsibility as may be allocated to the post.

The jobholder must comply at all times with Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust Health and Safety policies, in particular by following agreed safe working procedures and reporting incidents using the Trusts Risk Incident Reporting System.

Respect for Patient Confidentiality
The jobholder should respect patient confidentiality at all times and not divulge patient information unless sanctioned by the requirements of the role.

Infection Prevention and Control
All employees have a personal responsibility to comply with Trust and departmental Infection Prevention and Control policies to protect their own health, the health of patients, visitors and other employees and to prevent health care associated infections. This includes a requirement to maintain a safe, clean and tidy work environment and to complete mandatory Infection Prevention and Control Training as provided by the Foundation Trust. All clinical staff must ensure rigorous and consistent compliance with standard infection control precautions including Hand hygiene, dress code and use of personal protective equipment and other clinical care policies and protocols applicable to infection prevention and control. Employees are required to challenge poor performance or poor practice in relation to infection prevention and report any breaches using relevant Trust procedures such as the Incident reporting system.
Safeguarding Children and Adults
All employees have a responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and adults. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring they undertake the appropriate level of training in accordance with the safeguarding policy training strategy and that they are aware of and work within the safeguarding policies of the Trust

8. COMMUNICATION & WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
Works as part of the multidisciplinary team with medical / dental nursing, administration and reception staff.
Works in collaboration with junior medical staff on teaching / rotational programmes.
Supports work experience, students, dental nurses requiring shadow experience etc.
Works with primary care settings i.e. visiting schools. Collaborates with other ward and department staff within the Trust i.e. X-ray Department, Medical Illustration, Pharmacy, Pathology etc.
9. SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS
The post holder must e able to work flexibly as clinics may occasionally over-run.
The post holder may also be required to travel from site to site.
