The Head of Capital/Special Projects will lead on the development, implementation, and delivery of major capital appeals and special projects for Bradford Hospitals Charity. Working as part of the Senior Management Team, this role will be responsible for securing significant funding from major donors, trusts & foundations, and statutory sources to support transformational healthcare projects across the Trust. The role will lead on service development for the areas covered in the project, developing and implementing policy and proposing changes.
Main duties of the job
Bradford Hospitals Charity is the official NHS charity partner of Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We support the strategic priorities of the Trust by funding additional equipment, research, training, and improvements to the patient environment that go above and beyond standard NHS provision.
Bradford Hospitals Charity are embarking on a transformative £3 million capital campaign in partnership with the Sick Children's Trust to create a 'home from home' within our outstanding Neonatal Unit at Bradford Royal Infirmary. This vital facility will allow parents to stay close to their babies throughout their hospital journey, fundamentally enhancing the experience for both patients and families. Working alongside the Charity Director and Head of Fundraising, this role will take the lead in bringing this crucial project - and others of similar significance - to life by securing the essential funding needed.

Strategic Leadership
- Develop and implement comprehensive strategies for capital appeals and special projects involving the comparison of complex information where there may be conflicting views
- Work closely with NHS Trust leadership and the Charity Director to align fundraising priorities with strategic needs
- Provide regular progress reports to the Charity Board and Trust Executive Team
- Establish and lead project steering groups and fundraising committees
- Manage relationships with external suppliers and agencies as required
Fundraising
- Lead on securing major gifts from high-net-worth individuals, trusts & foundations and statutory sources. Exceptional relationship building skills, persuasion and negotiation skills are required
- Develop compelling cases for support along with fundraising materials
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and potential donors
- Create and implement effective donor stewardship programs
- Work with the wider fundraising team to ensure coordination between capital and revenue fundraising
- Personally manage a portfolio of major donor relationships,including high net worth individuals, trusts & foundations. Communicate complex information effectively. Persuade high-value supporters to support through compelling proposals and cultivation of meaningful, long-lasting partnerships.
Project Management
- Oversee the planning and delivery of capital appeals from conception to completion, planning and organising a range of complex activities whilst project planning. Flexibility and resilience are key as adjustments will invariably need to be made throughout the process.
- Holds the project budgets and ensure effective financial controls, working closely with the Charity Director and Finance team.
- Monitor project progress and provide regular updates to stakeholders
- Coordinate with NHS Trust capital projects teams
- Ensure compliance with all relevant fundraising and NHS regulations interpreting national policies.
- Responsible for project information systems for the project area.
Team Leadership
- Whilst the role currently does not have responsibility for any direct line reports, the aim will be that as income grows, you will recruit a team to support your work. This will involve leading and motivating the project team including recruitment, sickness management and disciplinary.
- Set clear objectives and monitor performance
- Provide guidance, mentoring and support to team members
- Ensure effective communication across all stakeholders
