Job summary

We have a rare & exciting opportunity for a motivated individual who wants to become a Physiotherapist. The successful applicant will be enthusiastic about the profession & will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the role of a physiotherapist through experience. For those people who are interested in helping individuals overcome difficulties affected by injury, illness or disability through movement and exercise, education and advice - working across varied specialities with people of all ages, then this is a fantastic opportunity.

The apprenticeship is a 3 year degree level program for a Physiotherapy (Degree Apprenticeship) BSc (Hons) during which you will learn all the skills needed to become a registered Physiotherapist. You will be part of the therapy team learning alongside them in the workplace. The academic & placement component is supported by The University of Huddersfield. The successful applicant would be offered the post subject to being accepted onto the University Physiotherapy Apprentice degree program. Interviews to be held on 10-11th April 2025

Main duties of the job

The jobholder will be employed in a three-year degree apprenticeship role within the Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (BTHFT).

Academic study will make up 20% at Huddersfield University and 20% on placements. The remaining 60% will be spent in the workplace. During the apprenticeship the post holder will perform all of the elements in this job description as a learner and under the direct and/or indirect supervision of a registered practitioner.

The jobholder is expected to be proactive in seeking opportunities to develop their own knowledge and skills, achieving clinical competencies and Degree / Level 6 qualification within agreed timeframes, and to seek support / guidance in a timely manner if any difficulties are encountered.

The jobholder will contribute to the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care as part of the multidisciplinary team. The jobholder will have the knowledge to interpret information and be skilled in taking appropriate action(s) to achieve the planned outcome. The post holder will contribute to the maintenance of a safe clinical environment. The post holder is expected to work within a wide variety of clinical environments.

It is required that jobholders will commit to undertake the formal education of the course and successfully complete all components of the training programme within the contract period.

Salary adjustment for successful candidates:

  • New to the NHS: If you are new to the NHS you will be paid at the current Apprentice Rate of £6.40 p/h for the first year, and then age-related National Minimum Wage for the remainder of your fixed-term contract. The Apprentice Rate will increase to £7.55 p/h from April 2025.
  • Existing NHS Employees: If you already have NHS experience, your pay will be determined in accordance with Annex 21 of the Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions meaning you will receive a percentage of the relevant pay band for the role, reflective of your current qualifications & experience.

The team consists of static and rotational Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists, Therapy Assistants and administrative support. The post requires the post holder to work as part of a team. The post holder may have daily supervisory responsibility for assistant staff and work experience students.

The services in some areas provide 7 day cover and the successful applicant must therefore be prepared to work weekends and extended days.

This post allows the Apprentice Physiotherapist Practitioner to develop their core clinical skills. There are opportunities for service development and involvement in audit and clinical governance.

Essential

  • Three GCSE passes at grade C / grade 4 or above including Maths and English or Level 2 functional skills in Maths and English
  • BBC at A Level Or, 112 UCAS tariff points from a combination of Level 3 qualifications. If you are studying a Science A Level, the endorsement for practical work is essential and a requirement for entry to the degree course. Please note that the UCAS points are used as a frame of reference and that applications will not be submitted through UCAS. Or, Merit at T Level in Health or Healthcare Science Or; DMM in BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma Or, NCFE CACHE Technical Level 3 Extended Diploma/Level 3 Extended Diploma at Grade B Or, Access to Higher Education Diploma with 45 Level 3 credits, 15 at Distinction and 30 at Merit
