BTHFT are looking to recruit an experienced Head of Sustainability to lead, monitor and report on the environmental management of the organisation and the sustainable aspects of the Trust's operational services. Investigate, implement and review the environmental aspects, impacts and management of the hospital built environment. The post-holder will also be responsible for ensuring that the Trust meets statutory and best practice guidelines associated with relevant legislation and guidance including:

o The NHS England's Delivering a Net Zero NHS.

o The Climate Change Act 2008.

o Environment Act 2021

o Environmental Protection Act 1990

o Relevant Health Technical Memorandum (HTM's)

  • Experience of implementing and leading change to existing practices across an organisation.
  • Knowledge and experience of procurement and tendering for specialist advice or services
  • Experience of negotiating with external consultants and/or contractors

  • High level of oral and written communication and influencing skills.
  • Able to maintain, direct and control a range of data and information relating to sustainability using dedicated software in line with compliance regulations and agreed Trust procedures.
  • Ability to liaise effectively at all levels within an organisation and with regulatory and other statutory bodies.
  • Computer literate with thorough understanding of Microsoft Office and monitoring/reporting software.
  • Ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work as part of a team or on own initiative and set priorities with minimal guidance.
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
  • Able to manage and co-ordinate the activities of others.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Ability to interpret data to identify inconsistencies and trends.

  • Degree, or equivalent, in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Environmental Engineering or equivalent.
  • Post graduate qualification in a relevant subject area (e.g. environmental management) or equivalent level of experience.
  • Professional membership in Environmental Management, Environmental Science, Engineering or other related subject, eg IEMA
  • Clean driving licence
