Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a Specialist interest in Arthroplasty .

We look to appoint a candidate to join our group of 15 consultant Orthopaedic surgeons. The successful candidate will be part of the general on call rota and will be supported in developing their sub-specialist interest. You will work alongside a senior colleague to provide support to the Arthroplasty Unit of 7 consultants. Applicants should have a passion and enthusiasm for service development.

Main duties of the job

The following is not an exhaustive or exclusive list of the duties of the appointed consultant.

  • This post is committed to providing an Orthopaedic and Trauma service with sub-specialisation in Primary Joint Arthroplasty (hip and knee). This post will be full time on the Locum Consultant contract.
  • Participation in the Trauma On-call service 1 in 12 weekdays, and 1:14 weekends
  • Operative lists, both Trauma and Elective
  • Regular ward rounds
  • Outpatient clinics, both Elective and Trauma
  • Active involvement in Trauma management, both Adult and Paediatric.
  • Supervision and training of Middle Grade Doctors
  • Participation in management duties within the Department and the Trust
  • Active liaison with the Emergency Department and attendance at Local and Regional Trauma meetings
  • Active participation and provision of leadership to the MDTs

The successful applicant will be an excellent team player who is willing to be flexible and develop skills within a cohesive department. In addition, we are looking for a surgeon who will contribute to audit, participate in and initiate research and who will be actively involved in clinical governance, administration and other management tasks.
