Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Dermatology Department in Bradford NHS Teaching Hospital. We are looking for a dynamic specialist dermatologist to join a substantive post based at St Luke's Hospital site. The new post holder would be expected to provide a full range of care at the Secondary care level for Medical Dermatology and skin cancer patients including Paediatrics.

The successful candidate will have wide experience in medical dermatology and dermatological surgical skills to complement the current team providing regular Fast Track and outpatient's clinics, procedure lists and MDT attendance.

The position comprises 10 PAs and cover for urgent inpatient referrals and GP queries in working hours is also anticipated, but there is no formal out of hours cover required for this post on a regular basis. There will also support for the Airedale Hospital Telemedicine Service built into the job plan.

We can offer agile and remote working options to support the successful candidate on discussion, there are opportunities for this post to become substantive and for specialisation in the candidate's field of interest and to support services within the unit.

Applicants will be expected to be Members of the Royal College of Physicians or have equivalent experience and training and must be fully registered and licensed to practice with the General Medical Council.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide outpatient clinic and procedure lists for inflammatory skin disease and skin cancer patients in the adult and paediatric population
  • To be an active member of the skin cancer multidisciplinary team, with regular attendance at the alternate week MDT meetings
  • To provide support, training and governance to nurses and any junior medical staff in the team. Support for local GPSI , GPs in training and students from regional hospitals is also anticipated
  • To provide a comprehensive Dermatology service, in collaboration with other Dermatologists, including inpatient care and referrals, outpatient referrals and treatment and telephone or electronic advice and guidance to local GPs
  • Active participation in clinical audit, continuing professional development and research as appropriate. There is access to a study leave budget for appropriate CPD activities. The post holder will be expected to contribute to the Trust and CBU Clinical Governance processes including the dedicated monthly half days. Compliance with annual appraisal and revalidation programme is required
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of clinical protocol
  • Work flexibly with colleagues to achieve the hospital's agreed planned activity for Dermatology out-patient services

  • Ensure that new techniques (outside ethically approved research projects) are only introduced after appropriate training, with approval of the relevant clinical directorates and with arrangements for evaluation and an audit trail.
