We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Senior Research Fellow to help deliver a new ground-breaking study aiming to address racism at the end-of-life. This is a unique opportunity to impact policy and practice locally and nationally, improving outcomes for racialised groups at one of the most vulnerable points of life.

The Research Fellow will work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, Dr Jamilla Hussain, a Palliative Care consultant and clinical academic and be part of the world-leading and supportive Yorkshire Quality and Safety Research Group (YQSR).

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work alongside leading national and international experts in inequalities at the end-of-life, racism in healthcare, policy-making, and complex intervention development and evaluation. The study steering group includes national policy leads for end-of-life care across all four nations, providing the foundation for high impact.

Main duties of the job

  • Work with communities and stakeholders to co-develop an anti-racism framework to address palliative and end-of-life inequalities related to racism and prioritise, develop and test an intervention related to the framework.
  • Synthesise relevant national and international anti-racism and cultural safety frameworks.
  • Conduct high-quality research using a range of qualitative methods, including focus groups, interviews and a focused ethnography.
  • Report and academic paper writing and contributing to future funding applications.
  • Attend conferences and other events to disseminate findings and engage with policy and third-sector organisations as required.
  • Project management and timekeeping to ensure the work packages are completed within timescales and to target.
  • Ensure that research governance procedures and data protection are adhered to according to local and national guidance.
  • Undertaking personal development in keeping with the aspiration to be a senior researcher.
