Job summary

This job is based in the Acute Dialysis Unit in Bradford Teaching. The service is mainly focused on dialysing patient with renal failure who are admitted to hospital. The service will support all patients from St Luke's Dialysis Unit and Skipton Dialysis Unit while they are admitted in hospital. In addition to that the service will accept any inpatient with acute kidney injury and will support the patient with temporary haemodialysis treatment until the kidney function recovers. Procedures like tunneled line insertion and temporary vascath insertion are carried out in the unit by the renal team and vascular access nurse.

Main duties of the job

  1. To dialyse chronic haemodialysis patients while they are admitted in hospital
  2. Support the renal team with procedures
  3. Care for patient in a holistic manner
  4. Ability to assess patient needs and plan, implement and evaluate care appropriately

  5. Ability to plan own time and use own initiative and act independently within the bounds of existing knowledge and skills

Job responsibilities

The appointed candidate will be responsible to ensure patients are dialysed safely and effective. The candidate will be expected to have a sound knowledge and understanding of the haemodialysis access and how to handle the tunneled line and care for a fistula. Also the appointed candidate will be trained to be take charge of the service. Part of the role will be to support and supervise junior staff. And also the appointed candidate will be trained to assisted the renal doctors and vascular access nurse with procedures like line insertion and line removal.
