Job summary

This is a strategic, specialist role requiring expertise in Database Design and Management relating to the Trust's Data Warehouse environment.

The role will provide technical authority, leadership, training support and management of the development of new and current information databases and information processing systems within the Trusts Datawarehouse.

The Senior Database developer will work collaboratively with Informatics teams to develop the road map and strategy for the Trusts data warehouse, aligned to business need and operational requirements.

The post holder will provide a lead role in the Data Warehouse team driving a culture of continuous improvement in order to ensure that the Trust has secure, robust and efficient data for all reporting and analytical purposes.

Main duties of the job

To lead the provision of technical solutions for continuous improvement of the Trusts Data Warehouse as the 'single source of truth' for all internal / external reporting and analytical requirements

Deputise for the Data Warehouse Manager as required and in co-ordination, with other Senior BI Managers

Essential

  • Significant experience in a database developer/development role in a multi-professional organisation
  • Evidence of having developed complex database systems
  • Knowledge and understanding of modern data analytics platforms
  • Experience of presenting complex information so that it is understandable to users

Desirable

  • Experience with NHS Data, Dataflows and integrating data from multiple sources
  • Awareness of NHS issues and initiatives
  • Previous experience of managing staff

Skills

Essential

  • Ability to analyse and interpret very large and complex datasets
  • Ability to extract and analyse data from multiple data sources and transpose into meaningful statistical information for the customers
  • Extensive experience of Microsoft SQL and associated tooling eg: SSMS, SSIS, SSRS
  • Ability to communicate highly complex information clearly and simply to information users in an NHS setting and understand and translate their information requirements.
  • Ability to produce high quality documentation relating to areas of responsibility including but not limited to schemas, data architecture diagrams, data dictionaries

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills including the ability to select an appropriate methodology when analysing data and developing the data model.
  • Ability to interpret guidance and other technical documents for new national requirements and put into application
  • Report writing and written presentation skills
  • Exposure to Microsoft Power BI, with an understanding on it's capabilities

  • An in depth knowledge of healthcare information systems or other process based systems

  • Detailed, expert-level, knowledge of NHS data standards
