We are seeking an experienced Emergency Nurse who is passionate, innovative, enthusiastic and self-motivated to support and develop the expansion of our education team where learning, improvement and excellence in nurse education will continue to thrive to another level amongst our forever hardworking team.

Main duties of the job

As our Practice Educator you will support the Education Lead Nurse and Matron in designing and delivering training programmes across our large team of over 100 nurses, health care support workers, students and progressing health care professionals.

You will coach, supervise and support the nursing teams whereby you will actively clinically work alongside the clinical team to further improve the delivery of an exceptionally high standard of nurse education to our nursing and wider workforce.

We recognise that high quality education and learning can positively influence the quality of patient care therefore working in collaboration with colleagues, you will work as directed by the Education Nurse Lead and support the development of a bespoke Emergency Nursing Education Strategy aligned to departmental, organisational, regulatory and governance requirements.

Job responsibilities

  • The post holder will work alongside clinical staff in all zones of the Emergency Department, providing support, coaching, role modelling and education in a kind and approachable manner always adhering to the trust values.
  • The post holder will work three clinical shifts per roster period Monday to Friday (condensed hours into 4 day week will be considered ) clinically team leading areas of the department ensuring all policies are adhered too.
  • The post holder will participate in the delivery of practice-based education, mandatory training, alongside continuing professional development for non-medical staff of all levels, including training and retention of all new staff.
  • Demonstrate a high level of knowledge, skill and understanding of clinical practice within the Emergency Department, acting as resource and a role model to a wide range of colleagues within Emergency Care.
  • Maintain academic credibility to ensure own practice demonstrates current clinical knowledge by successful completion of post registration courses relevant to Emergency Nursing.
  • Supports the Lead Nurse in designing, planning and delivering simulation training sessions to the ED workforce alongside colleagues within the department such as Sim fellows and the trust education team in response to themes arising from incidents, bridging gaps from theory in to practice and skill gap analysis key themes.
  • Work with the Lead Nurse in ensuring all relevant frameworks including the NMC and Trust Standards for learning, development and assessments are implemented and embedded in to nursing practice.
  • Support all registrants in their NMC revalidation journey dates providing assurance to the senior team that all are up to date.
  • The post holder will work alongside clinical staff, providing support, coaching, role modelling and education in a kind and approachable manner always adhering to the trust values.
  • The post holder with supervision will contribute in the development of nurse education by networking with relevant teams, forums, colleagues, councils, agencies, education authorities and be responsible for consistently monitoring and evaluating outcomes by means of feedback analysis and audit of safe effective care.
  • The Post holder with supervision will actively participate in quality and safety, clinical governance and specific work streams including risk teams to ensure service delivery is of a high standard.
  • Participate in updating and developing relevant clinical guidelines, policies and standard operating procedures to support safe, effective evidence based care.
