Job summary

We are looking to recruit an Environment & Sustainability Manager to lead, monitor and report on the environmental management of the organisation and the sustainable aspects of the Trust's operational services. Investigate, implement and review the environmental aspects, impacts and management of the hospital built environment. The post-holder will also be responsible for ensuring that the Trust meets statutory and best practice guidelines associated with:

The NHS England's Delivering a Net Zero NHS.

The Climate Change Act 2008.

Environment Act 2021

Environmental Protection Act 1990

Relevant Health Technical Memorandum (HTM's)

  • Degree, or equivalent, in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Environmental Engineering or equivalent

Experience

Essential

  • 5 years relevant experience in an sustainability and/or environmental management position
  • Experience of implementing change to existing practices across an organisation
  • Experience of negotiating with external consultants and/or contractors

Skills

Essential

  • High level of oral and written communication and influencing skills
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Ability to liaise effectively at all levels within an organisation and with regulatory and other statutory bodies
  • Excellent computer skills with thorough understanding of Microsoft Office and monitoring/reporting software
  • Ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work as part of a team or on own initiative and set priorities with minimal guidance
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Able to manage and co-ordinate the activities of others
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Ability to interpret data to identify inconsistencies and trends

  • Expert knowledge of sustainability impact assessments, carbon footprinting and developing and implement green strategies and policies.
