Job summary
The post is primarily based in the Orthopaedic Surgery Service at Bradford Royal Infirmary but the postholder may at times be expected to provide cross cover to the other secretarial teams in the directorate which covers both Bradford Royal Infirmary and St Luke's hospital site.
For the Band 3 Medical Secretary role you will work within a multi-disciplinary team, and be responsible for a range of duties related to patient pathway management, including; diary management, audio transcription and word processing of clinical letters, production of reports and other correspondence as required by the Medical Team as well as theatre scheduling.
You should be literate and numerate, with excellent organisational, time management and IT skills and an ability to work without supervision and to tight deadlines and under pressure.
Appropriate speed and accuracy of typing is required for this role and this will be assessed at interview along with IT skills including knowledge of Microsoft packages. Medical secretarial experience is desirable but not essential but you should have a secretarial & administrative background including dealing with the general public on a face to face basis and by telephone often around sensitive issues.
Main duties of the job
A high standard of communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work with staff at all levels is essential to this post along with a strong team ethic; you must have enthusiasm, motivation and demonstrate pride in your work. A good knowledge of the NHS would be also be advantageous.
