An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior BI Analyst to join the Business Intelligence (BI) team . The Senior BI Analyst will undertake a specialist role in driving the provision of high quality, timely and accurate information, providing appropriate analysis to assist service areas in delivering high quality, safe, patient focused services. They will provide specialist advice to Trust stakeholders from ward to Board, based on their expert knowledge and technical skills.

We are looking for a forward thinking information professional to help shape the future of our self-service, real time intelligence strategy. We are looking for enthusiasm, creativity and initiative, to continually innovate and develop improvements to the reporting systems and processes that we operate. Working with staff in the BI team and wider Informatics department, you will support the flow of information throughout the organisation to improve insight into activity, performance and quality of care.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will produce high quality activity based information to support clinical and management teams within the organisation.

The post holder will assist the BI Manager by managing other members of the BI Team and developing, maintaining and operating reporting services information systems in order that routine corporate information outputs are produced in the most efficient and effective manner to deadlines.

The Post holder will use advanced data analysis techniques, corporate reporting systems and Business Intelligence reporting tools, with other members of the team to design, test and produce appropriate and fit for purpose new or updated report outputs, automating and delegating the routine delivery of these report outputs to other colleagues when appropriate.

  • Experience of the clinical environment of the NHS, its targets, definitions and monitoring methodologies
  • Experience of working with health service managers and professional to deliver their information requirements
  • Experience of working with Microsoft Office software to advanced level with, in particular, a thorough understanding of Microsoft Excel
  • Experience of defining, testing and producing various types of reports and graphical representations using reporting tools to meet stakeholders needs

Desirable

  • Working in partnership with external agencies
  • Experience of producing new data set in response to national/contracted requirements

Skills

Essential

  • Ability to analyse and interpret very large and complex datasets
  • Ability to extract and analyse data from multiple data sources and transpose into meaningful statistical information for the customers
  • Ability to communicate highly complex information clearly and simply to information users in an NHS setting and understand and translate their information requirements.

Desirable

  • Ability to help information users appreciate the value and purpose of corporate data
  • Ability to interpret guidance and other technical documents for new national requirements and put into application
  • Ability to understand existing SQL scripts as well as create new ones.
  • Exposure to Microsoft Power BI, with an understanding on it's capabilities

  • Detailed, expert-level, knowledge of NHS data standards
  • An in depth knowledge of healthcare information systems or other process based systems
  • Advanced expert knowledge of the use of IT Systems and reporting tools (incl. Microsoft Excel and SSRS)

Desirable

  • Knowledge and understanding of any other reporting tools, statistical analyst package or database tools (e.g R, Python etc.)
  • Knowledge of current Foundation Trust information systems (e.g. Cerner EPR)

Qualifications

  • Advanced understanding of the principles of Informatics to degree level or equivalent experience.

Desirable

  • 'A' Level Mathematics or equivalent in computing/applications/IT or related discipline
  • Degree in Health Informatics or related discipline
  • Recent professional training in the use of a Business Intelligence reporting tool (preferably SSRS or Power BI)
