Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic, well-motivated individual to join the well-established Switchboard team at the Bradford Royal Infirmary. The department provides a 24/7 service as the first point of contract for the Trust and our associated hospitals.
We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills, a good level of customer experience, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
The job holder must be flexible in their approach and should be able to work unsociable hours (nights, weekends and public holidays). The successful candidate will be required to work allocated shifts, and therefore must be fully flexible and available.
A good working knowledge of the NHS would be advantageous. Previous administrative, communication and IT skills are essential to the success of the role.
Main duties of the job
Activities
- Provide an efficient, effective, and courteous telecommunications service to the organisation
- Use provided software and hardware as appropriate, to achieve required outcome
- Monitor the cardiac arrest, fire and alarm panels and take appropriate action
- Methodically and accurately record any messages and changes to duty rotas and take the appropriate action
- Work flexibly, and as-and-when required. Be willing to work days, evenings, weekends, and bank holidays to assist in covering the service
- Provide a central communication facility for activating the Trust MAJAX Procedure, ensuring clear and precise lines of communication to all relevant parties
- Support the paging device management, including distributing and arranging repairs, and taking an active role in the doctor changeover days. This also includes the daily testing of the hospital crash bleep system
- Operate as first point of contact for contacting relevant Trust personnel in emergency situations
Information
- Provide information to ensure that services are delivered in the most cost effective way.
- Record departmental activity and provide to the Switchboard Team Leader in a timely manner, as required
- Understand principles of Information Governance and act within the policy.
Quality
- Maintain systems to measure service provision against established quality standards and service levels
- Support the Switchboard Supervisor in monitoring, maintaining and improving the quality of service.
