Job summary

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a research team committed to making health care safer for all through innovative and inclusive research. The role will be based within the National Institute for Heath and Care Research (NIHR) Yorkshire and Humber Patient Safety Research Collaboration (PSRC) Yorkshire and Humber Patient Safety Research Collaboration (nihr.ac.uk). Our vision is to lead research for safe, high quality and sustainable care by embracing diversity of experience and expertise. The post-holder will join a supportive team of researchers and lay leaders and leading in delivering our ambitious EDI and PPIE strategies. You will guide our work, ensuring that diverse members of the public, patients, and health and social care staff are embedded in the work we do.

Main duties of the job

The role of the Community Involvement and Inclusion Lead is to lead, support and develop patient and public involvement and engagement work and equality, diversity and inclusion activity within the PSRC.

Specifically, the main duties of the role include but are not limited to:

  • Developing diverse communities of members of the public, staff and patients to play an important role in research.
  • Integrating and embedding community engagement into a research programme.
  • Leading the delivery and evaluation of the PPIE and EDI strategies.

  • Extensive experience of developing, delivering and evaluating stakeholder or community engagement programmes at a strategic level in an organisation.
  • Experience of working with a wide range of social and cultural communities to improve the quality and experience of services.
  • Project / programme management experience: keeping to timelines, managing risks, reporting.
  • Wide experience of working collaboratively with members of the public to co-create communication campaigns, services, engagement activity or research.
  • Experience of working in collaborative research groups including the NHS, academics, and other stakeholders.

Desirable

  • Planning programmes of training and development to support effective involvement and inclusion.
  • Lead authoring reports about engagement activity for different stakeholder groups.
  • Experience of working with voluntary and community sector groups and regional and national stakeholder networks.

  • Communication skills including plain English writing skills and active listening skills
  • IT skills including use of Microsoft Office.
