Children's Services is currently going through a transformational change with the merging of nursing teams across the Paediatric Emergency Department and the Children and Young People's Unit. The successful candidate will be offered the opportunity to work across all areas with your preferred area being your main place of work.

Main duties of the job

Children's Services at Bradford Royal Infirmary needs you to join our dedicated team to enable us to continue offering the children of Bradford excellent care. Our team is growing, and we require dynamic, outgoing Healthcare Assistants to join our renowned team.

The successful applicant will need to have:

  • A commitment to caring for sick children and their families.
  • NVQ/QCF Diploma or Apprenticeship at Level 3 in Health & Social Care (applicants with a Level 2 in Health & social Care will be considered but will be offered a Band 3 Trainee post and your starting salary will reflect this).
  • Commitment to continuing your own personal professional development.

Job responsibilities

Childrens Emergency Department (ED)

Childrens ED is a busy department who currently see large volumes of children every year in an area specifically dedicated to children. Children who are attending with urgent care complaints are streamed straight to this area.

Childrens Clinical Decision Area (CCDA) and Short Stay

The Childrens Decision Area sees children referred from GPs, children with direct access and children sent from ED requiring a further assessment. The short stay area is for children who require a prolonged period of observation but who are unlikely to need a full admission to hospital.

Ward 30 (Childrens Inpatient Unit)

Ward 30 is a Childrens Inpatient Unit that was purpose built in 2016. The unit includes 35 inpatient beds, a two-bedded stabilisation area. The ward has an adolescent room, school room, play room, and an accessible bathroom. Each bed space also has state of the art bedside monitoring.

A team of clinical skills educators will be on hand with a supportive and robust training package, including:

  • Obtaining physiological observations
  • Meeting the care needs of children
  • Venepuncture & cannulation
  • ECG monitoring
  • Bladder scanning
  • Blood glucose & ketone monitoring
  • Urinalysis
  • Care of a child with a tracheostomy
  • Caring for children requiring long term ventilation
