Job summary

Applications are invited for the post of NHS Locum Consultant Anaesthetist at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for a period of one year with an option to extend if required. This post is a consultant post covering general anaesthesia working within a large anaesthetic department. The post holder will join a team of 45 Consultants, 2 SAAS Anaesthetists and 32 trainees.

The job plan will be based on the information listed below. The timing of the sessions indicated below may alter. However, the overall composition of the job plan is not expected to change.

This is a 12 month post with a possibility to extend. We will endeavour, where possible, to allocate successful candidates to their desirable surgical specialties. Candidates can also choose whether they wish to support acute anaesthetic on call or concentrate on elective activity. The successful candidate will be expected to remain flexible and provide anaesthetic services for weekend waiting list work when mutually convenient

This post is to provide anaesthetic services for the variety of surgical specialities as outlined in the timetable. Bradford Teaching Hospitals caters for all surgical specialities except major cardiothoracic, neurosurgery and transplant surgery.

General Duties

The duties of the post may be changed from time to time in the light of changing requirements of the Anaesthetic Service subject to the agreement of the post holder.

The post holder will support the General Anaesthesia services within Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. You will be based in the Anaesthetics Department at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust carrying out general Anaesthetic duties.

Emergency Duties

The Department of Anaesthetics has two Consultant Anaesthetists on call each night, one to cover the Critical Care Unit and one to cover acute theatre work and Obstetrics.

Clinical Duties

The post holder will maintain the highest clinical standards in Anaesthesia. Work closely with colleagues to share the provision of Anaesthetic advice to all inpatients.

  • To work with colleagues, both medical and nursing to improve and advance the service.
  • To share with colleagues the responsibility for the management of the Department.
  • Teaching and training of trainees, junior medical staff, nursing staff, primary care colleagues and medical students.
  • To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing professional development (CPD).
