The post holder will be responsible for providing archiving assistance within the histopathology service. This post will support the entire histopathology administration department with archiving duties which includes the filling of glass slides, blocks and case notes. Additional admin duties will also be undertaken where required to support the department.

Main duties of the job

  • Uses specialist software on a daily basis to track cases.
  • Identify records that need archiving and and archive correctly according to policy.
  • Ensure effective administrative procedures are carried out in relation with department policies and procedures.
  • Collecting glass slides for the secretarial team to support their preparation of MDT meetings.
  • Responsibility for maintaining and auditing accurate records in line with the department's policy on Record Management.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Uses specialist software on a daily basis to track cases.
  • Identify records that need archiving and and archive correctly according to policy.
  • Ensure effective administrative procedures are carried out in relation with department policies and procedures.
  • Collecting glass slides for the secretarial team to support their preparation of MDT meetings.
  • Responsibility for maintaining and auditing accurate records in line with the departments policy on Record Management.
  • General office duties including filing, photocopying etc where required.
  • Contribute to the effective running of the department by covering the colleagues on sick/annual leave.
  • To work within Trust and Departmental policies, protocols and procedures at all times.
  • Participate in the Trust Appraisal process.
  • Such other duties at a comparable level of responsibility as may be allocated to the post.

  • To understand Pathology LIMS system (WinPath)
  • To monitor fast track cancer patients pathways within Histopathology and ensure protocols are followed and deadlines are met to achieve the waiting time targets. Address any issues or alert the relevant manager to any potential breaches in targets.
  • Contributes to devising new and reviewing existing departmental protocols in line with any changes in direction or relevant legislation.
  • To participate in clinical governance activities as appropriate.
