The Legacy Nurse Mentor role should appeal to experienced registered nurses in the late stages of their career. You will be helping newly qualified nurses, nursing associates, return to practice nurses, students, and those in other clinical roles by imparting your knowledge, skills and experience through coaching and supporting them in the early stages of their career. You will need to demonstrate empathy and patience, be passionate about your profession and be able to provide pastoral support to others. We can all reflect on the importance of mentors and role models in our own careers, and this is an opportunity to have that kind of influence on the incoming generation as they set out on a career in health and care.
This role will be key in supporting newly qualified colleagues to stay and stay well. You will be providing coaching and mentoring, and we are happy to provide training for someone with the right skills and attitude needed for this role.
You may work in a range of specialisms or environments across the Trust using a coaching model. In addition to mentoring newly qualified professionals, you will also support practice placements for learners, and liaise with other practice placement support staff to ensure consistency of support across the setting.
Main duties of the job
You will either have a degree or relevant experience and hold a current professional registration. In addition, you should have either have an accredited teaching qualification or experience in supporting learners in practice. We have several part-time positions available, and you will be able to work flexibly within the Trust to mentor and coach colleagues in clinical practice, and we can support you to work a variety of hours to support in clinical practice.
We are passionate about your development, and you will have opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge in this role. Your role will include involvement in wider education department activities such as supporting newly qualified professionals on induction, simulation courses, preceptorship, leadership development and clinical skills teaching.
