Job summary

Brief Description of the Role:

We are looking for a pro-active, self-motivated individual with strong problem solving skills who shows a passion for improving and developing services to work in our small, dedicated team in technical pharmacy. This role will suit a dedicated, enthusiastic individual with a desire to make an impact, who has a background in technical services.

This post has become available at an exciting time for BTHFT, as the technical services team are currently preparing to transfer aseptic services from Bradford Royal Infirmary to St Luke's Hospital, and will shortly be commissioning a temporary aseptic unit for use, while the planning and development of a new, permanent unit is ongoing.

Please note this post is subject to a probationary period of six months.

If qualified, successful candidates will also be expected to join and support the team of Medical Gas Pipeline System (MGPS) Quality Controllers based at BTHFT, but working across Yorkshire, the North East & Derbyshire.

Main duties of the job

The role, based in an MHRA-licensed Manufacturer's Specials Licensed unit, involves providing aseptic and radiopharmacy services to both internal and external customers - primarily NHS Trusts. The successful applicant will take on the role of Interim Quality Controller for the purposes of the MS Licence and will work closely with the Production Manager to ensure a high standard of care and quality products are delivered to patients. This role is maternity leave cover for the current Quality Controller, who will retain the title of Quality Controller and will be on site on a monthly basis to provide consistent support and guidance throughout the term.

The post holder will be responsible for the Quality Control Laboratory on-site, which provides microbiological testing functions, as well as physical environmental monitoring services for BTHFT and other Trusts, supported by the Lead Technician who manages the day to day QC service.

The post holder will work closely with the Production Manager, Lead Technician - Radiopharmacy and Lead Scientist - Radiopharmacy to provide the day to day aseptic and radiopharmacy services, alongside a supportive team of releasing officers, aseptic technicians and clinical pharmaceutical scientists. Further support is available from the Accountable Pharmacist and Lead Technician - Aseptics, who are responsible for the Section 10 aseptic service.

About us

You must be an excellent communicator with outstanding interpersonal and relationship building skills. You will need to be forward thinking and enthusiastic, with a commitment to continuing professional development. BTHFT is a teaching hospital and pharmacy technical services demonstrate a significant commitment to training, evidenced by our excellent reputation for supporting successful candidates through the NSHCS STP Training programme in Clinical Pharmaceutical Science.

The team is small, and truly multidisciplinary, the volume and variety of work undertaken is large, there is no denying that we work very hard. Therefore the ideal candidate will also need to be dedicated and hard working, and have a willingness to be flexible when necessary. As a consequence of the often pressured working environment, there is a strong management focus on staff wellbeing and support within the team, the outcome being that the team is highly-functioning, fun, friendly and supportive of all colleagues.
