Job summary

Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Gastroenterology with an interest in ERCP/EUS at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This offers the opportunity to join a cohesive and progressive gastroenterology and hepatology department which has an excellent track record in clinical service delivery, research, teaching & training.

This is an exciting opportunity to appoint to a full-time consultant position. The post holder is expected to have broad experience of gastroenterology and endoscopy, contributing to the core Gastroenterology elective and emergency service. The department offers Complex IBD, Nutrition, Hepatology and hepato-biliary expertise in addition to advanced therapeutic endoscopic services and a bowel cancer screening service.

Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the designated upper GI cancer centre for West Yorkshire and provides the EUS service in West Yorkshire to support the pancreatic cancer centre based in Leeds. The service provides Spyglass ERCP for the area and receives tertiary referrals from beyond Yorkshire.

The endoscopy unit is in the process of a major redevelopment which will increase the number of endoscopy rooms from six to eight. The department recently secured a multimillion pound funding award to build a brand new endoscopy unit with 8 rooms fit for future and work is expected to commence soon with completion date set for 2025.

Main duties of the job

The post is designed to ensure a long-term stable EUS/ERCP/Spyglass service to support upper GI and pancreatic cancer centres along with benign hepatobiliary disease. The Trust is committed to providing in-house training of these techniques if applicants have not attained independent practice prior to appointment.

The successful applicant will join a team of 9 WTE gastroenterologists fully supported by specialist nurses and advanced diagnostic services. They will participate in a 1 in 10 category A out of hours on call rota.
