We are recruiting newly qualified nurses to join our dynamic and forward thinking team at Bradford Royal Infirmary. The successful candidates will be joining Ward 30/32.

About us

The ward is part of The Yorkshire and Humber Children's managed clinical network, which has an educational commitment to each hospital within the network and meets regularly to ensure the standardisation of care for the critically ill child. We also support both pre and post graduate students and have close ties with the University of Bradford.

We have a very strong relationship with the Community Children's Nurses (CCN). They support and empower children, families and other carers to have the knowledge, skills and confidence to care for complex health needs in the community. The community team care for many children and young people who have long term conditions. This is supported by specialist nurses in complex care such as respiratory medicine and diabetes. There is an ambulatory care team who are based on Ward 30/32; they support the inpatient team by expediting discharge from hospital and delivering care at home.

Main duties of the job

As a registered children's nurse the post holder is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care.

An interest in acute paediatric nursing and care of the child in the assessment/HDU environment

About us

Ward 30/32 has 41 inpatient beds (4 of which are designated for enhanced care) and a 9 bedded assessment and short stay area. We have a busy clinical decisions area on the unit, where initial assessment of the child takes place. We work within a friendly multi- disciplinary team from multiple specialities and disciplines such as surgery and medicine. The environment includes a play area, sensory/physiotherapy room and school room. We also have an adolescent lounge which was designed by local young people.

About us

We offer a comprehensive induction programme which includes one week trust induction, one week bespoke paediatric induction, three weeks supernumerary and two weeks supervised practice where you will be in the numbers with a member of the dedicated clinical skills team supporting you. We also continue to support you by offering NQN study sessions throughout your first six months in post. To help you gain confidence in the care of the sick deteriorating child, we offer a programme to introduce basic and advanced high dependency care skills. The programme incorporates Basic Life Support (BLS) skills and Paediatric Intermediate Life Support (PILS) skills.
