Job summary

We are seeking an experienced and proactive finance professional to join us as the Deputy Finance Manager - Treasury, Subsidiary and Charity, providing specialist financial leadership for the Torbay and South Devon NHS Charity and for the Trust's Subsidiary company, SDH Developments Ltd.

In this key role, you will also play an important part in supporting the Financial Services team with reporting and compliance activities. You will be part of a small, dedicated team and work closely with colleagues across Corporate Finance and Financial Services. You will ensure the effective stewardship of charitable funds, deliver accurate and timely financial reporting, and maintain strong financial controls and compliance for the Charity and Subsidiary.

This is a highly collaborative position, working with finance and operational Trust personnel, fund managers, donors, investment managers, and external stakeholders to maximise the impact of charitable income, support efficient Subsidiary operations and contribute to the delivery of Financial Services objectives. You will operate with a high degree of autonomy, making informed decisions in line with Trust policies, Standing Financial Instructions, Charity Law, Company Law, HMRC regulations and professional standards.

Main duties of the job

o Support the financial services team with Trust reporting, cashflow forecasting and treasury management.

o Lead day-to-day financial management for the Charity, including management accounts, budget setting, forecasts and cashflow management.

o Provide professional financial advice to fund managers and senior managers, supporting business cases and grant applications.

o Oversee Subsidiary financial operations: AP/AR processing, ledger integrity, monthly management accounts, HMRC returns and assist with statutory submissions and Companies House filings.

o Coordinate audit and year-end processes for the Charity (SORP) and support Subsidiary year-end and consolidation into Trust accounts.

o Prepare Gift Aid claims and ensure compliance with HMRC, Charity Commission and NHS requirements.

o Support VAT compliance across the Trust, Charity and Subsidiary activities.

o Maintain effective financial policies, procedures and internal controls; identify and implement process improvements and automation in the Charity and Subsidiary.

o Produce timely KPI and governance reports to the Charity Committee and Corporate Trustee; escalate risks and issues promptly.

o Line-manage and develop the Charity Accountant and provide day-to-day leadership/supervision for the Subsidiary Deputy Accountant.

The TSD Charity is a small but fast-growing local charity, raising funds to improve patient care, support colleague wellbeing and help our communities to live well. SDH Developments Ltd is a wholly owned Subsidiary of the Trust and operates the out-patient pharmacy service at Torbay hospital. This entity was incorporated with the objective to provide an efficient and cost-effective vehicle to deliver this service to out-patients of the Trust. The Subsidiary board is committed to continuous improvement and economical delivery of its objectives.

  • A relevant accounting qualification eg AAT/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent with post qualification experience
  • 5 x GCSE grade C or above or equivalent, including Mathematics and English Language
