Job summary

To provide the Trust with an effective and efficient maintenance and repair service by supporting the day to day activities of the site environment maintenance service, so as to deliver a robust, technically strong customer responsive service which complies with relevant statutory directives.

Also to monitor and guide the staff within your team, and assist external contractors to complete their tasks and objectives.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for bright and ambitious Operational Estates Officer to join our great team at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking for someone who has a strong track record of managing and delivering a customer focused Estates service at a similar level in a highly complex environment, preferably in healthcare.

We need Estates Officers who will support a team, where the quality of service, a safe patient and staff environment, strong financial management and statutory compliance are the key drivers within all areas of the service. This is a key role within our operational team, and we are keen to recruit motivated individuals who will help us to provide the levels of service that we continually strive to provide to our patients and clinical colleagues.

You will assist in the delivery of estates operational plans and will provide operational support in the delivery of capital projects. They will support the Maintenance Manager to ensure appropriate financial, workforce, contractor and performance management arrangements are in place.

Qualifications and training

Essential

  • HND/HNC in a relevant estate discipline appropriate for this role or equivalent qualification, or demonstrable acquired knowledge and experience.
  • oProven track record of Continuing Professional Development within the building and built environment.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • oKnowledge and understanding of operational estate management in the building disciplines.
  • oKnowledge of health and safety matters relating to the estate and a broad understanding of statutory and mandatory requirements and procedures.
  • oKnowledge and understanding of Health & Safety legislation and the need for risk assessments and application in the context of managing risk
  • oKnowledge of maintenance planning and organisation (PPM, reactive, contract, etc).
  • oExperience of implementing quality controls, processes and procedures.
  • oKnowledge of trade principles and practice. High level of building knowledge, techniques, systems and standards

Desirable

  • oKnowledge of building associated systems and safety requirements within healthcare premises and associated buildings.
  • oKnowledge of legislation relating to estates services
  • oGood experience in building infrastructure and all associated systems in NHS Estates
  • oBudgetary control, planning and forecasting
