Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Neurology Team as a Band 6 Headache Specialist Nurse (Maternity Cover).
We are looking for an experienced nurse with an interest in developing skills in the treatment of headache disorders and who is committed to delivering high standards of care. You will work closely with the neurological speciality doctor. You will be responsible for the assessment and treatment of patients with headache disorders.
You will need effective communication skills and be prepared to work flexibly and collaboratively to meet the needs of the service. It is essential to have evidence of professional competencies and the ability to apply your knowledge and skills to clinical practice.
Training would be provided for the role including injections.
Main duties of the job
- Manage own patient caseload, maintain nurse-led clinics in secondary care providing advice and support to patients/carers regarding their ongoing care and condition. Be the point of contact for patients and carers.
- Maintain and evaluate telephone consultations for patients with Headache disorders.
- Liaise directly with Neurology Specialty Doctor/Consultant/GP.
- To offer holistic counselling and refer to specialist counselling services, if appropriate.
- To advise and support the multidisciplinary team regarding the management of patients with Headache disorders within the hospital and the primary care setting. This will require attendance at local meetings. Provide representation on committees/meetings as required.
- Continue to develop through CPD and undertake all mandatory training.
