Job summary
Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a talented and enthusiastic Specialty Dentist to work in our Restorative Dentistry service. This post provides a rare opportunity for someone who is passionate about the delivery of complex dental care to NHS High Priority groups including head and neck cancer, development conditions of the teeth and jaws, and trauma.
Main duties of the job
The candidate should have a strong interest in Restorative Dentistry, including competence in the subdisciplines of prosthodontics, periodontics and endodontics. They should ideally have at least 3 years postgraduate experience of providing general dentistry, experience of working with NHS high priority groups, and ideally at least one year of secondary care working at Dental Core Trainee level.
The successful candidate will be required to perform a full range of dental procedures to support the department in the delivery of care to these complex patients. They will be supported to develop their skills in line with the needs of department and their personal development goals.

The department works closely with the ENT department and Plastic Surgery particularly in the management of head and neck cancer.

The post holder will have the opportunity to work in a fully integrated and well equipped Restorative Dental Service under Consultant supervision. All aspects of Restorative Dentistry are offered within the Department, and it is expected that the successful candidate will gain experience within all the sub-specialties of Restorative Dentistry. The candidate will be expected to work autonomously where required, but will have the full support of the Restorative Consultant who will help them to take on challenging cases where appropriate. They may be asked to supervise Junior members of the team, or assist the Dental therapist as required.
The post holder will be expected to manage NHS priority patients, ranging from some medically compromised patients requiring relatively simple restorative care, to others that will require complex restorative care. There will be access to modern equipment (including operating microscopes, rotary endodontic instruments, articulators, sandblasters etc). Dedicated nursing, administrative and secretarial support will be available. The Consultant is available to provide supervision and guidance when required.
The successful post holder will have the opportunity to gain experience in general Restorative diagnosis and treatment-planning, provision of a range of endodontic, periodontal and prosthodontic treatments. There are Consultant led restorative new patient clinics, which the post holder may be expected to participate in.
There are also specific new patient clinics for the dental assessment and treatment planning prior to chemotherapy, radiotherapy or surgical therapy for head and neck cancer patients, with opportunity to provide treatment as necessary.
