Job summary
The South Devon Bowel Cancer Screening Centre manages the screening programme for the eligible screening population in a rolling two year programme, covering the geographical area of Torbay, the South Hams, Teignbridge, Plymouth and West Devon. The Screening Centre has cross trust working arrangements with Plymouth NHS Trust, this being a screening site for the centre
.
As a Specialist Screening Practitioner within the Screening Centre, you will be working as part of the multidisciplinary team ensuring the delivery of the NHS Bowel Cancer Screening Programme
Main duties of the job
Specialist Screening Practitioners are the first point of contact for participants who have received a positive FIT test. They provide specialist advice, support and continuity of care throughout the screening pathway.
Assessing fitness for colonoscopy, attending colonoscopy, managing the results handling process and referral to the multidisciplinary team if appropriate.
Provide information, psychosocial support and advice to patients undergoing screening for bowel cancer and their families/carers.
Co-ordinating and providing care from the screening centre to address the needs of individuals arising because of the screening programme.
Acting as the patient's advocate supporting them to navigate and make informed choices at all stages of the screening process.
Be a resource and provide specialist support and advice to other healthcare professionals regarding the screening process.
Work collaboratively with the screening hub, health promotion services, multidisciplinary
