Job summary
We are looking for a confident, enthusiastic and motivated Band 5 Midwife to join our maternity team at Torbay Hospital, where we provide care for approximately 1900 women and birthing people a year.
The post will involve rotation between the antenatal/postnatal ward and labour ward. You will need to be flexible as the successful candidate will be required to work shifts including weekends, bank holidays and nights to meet the needs of the service.
We are able to offer a supportive and comprehensive preceptorship package to newly qualified midwives within our friendly unit. Our current preceptees have benefited from the extra support of our Midwifery Practice Education Facilitator and this will be available throughout this preceptorship.

Main duties of the job
- e aware of the Birthing person's emotional, social and physical needs.
- Ensure birthing people and their babies are provided with privacy and dignity throughout their stay in the unit.
- Prioritise own time.
- Facilitate birthing people's involvement in the decision-making process regarding their care.
- Ensure the health and social setting is responsive to the individual needs of the birthing person, particularly those who are disadvantaged.
- Advocate and support the rights of individual birthing people to make informed choices about their care.
- Support birthing people in their choice of feeding their baby, giving advice as needed following the UNICEF baby friendly policy.
- Support birthing people and their families through the transition to parenthood.
- Work within NMC codes of practice and professional guidelines.
- Provide care during the pregnancy continuum, to birthing people admitted to the maternity unit.
- Maintain regular contact with preceptor and Practice Education Facilitator to encourage personal and professional development throughout the preceptorship period.
- Complete a formal framework of preceptorship within a defined period of time.
- Demonstrates sound organisational skills when planning clinical workload.
- Attends annual mandatory training as required by the Trust.
- Contribute with feedback, to ensure the health and social care setting is responsive to the individual needs of birthing people and be an advocate, particularly those who are disadvantaged.

Why Work With Us? We areproud to provide an integrated model of midwifery providing continuity of care. There are 6 community midwifery teams providing care to the region of South Devon.
Together with this we have a hospital based midwifery team (Meridian Team) which provides care to all women during their antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal stay in hospital. There is also a Maternity Assessment Unit and Antenatal clinical situated within the Maternity Unit and a stand alone 2 bedded Midwifery Led Unit in Newton Abbott.
