Job summary

Here at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust we have an exciting opportunity for an 18-month fixed term full-time training post in Echocardiography. This is part of the Echocardiography Training Programme developed by the National School of Healthcare Science and funded by Health Education England.

About us

The hospital serves a population of approximately 300,000 plus another 100,000 at any one time during the summer holiday season.

The Torbay Cardiac Centre was open in 2003 with two modern Cardiac Cath labs which were updated in 2015 providing both elective and non-elective procedures. We offer a 24/7 primary PCI service with the ability to perform rotablation, IVUS, pressure wires and intra-aortic balloon pumps, as well as brady and complex pacing.

There is an 8 bedded coronary care unit, 8 bedded chest pain unit and 14 bedded cardiology wards in this busy and expanding cardiac centre. We currently have 6 interventional cardiologists and 5 non-interventional cardiologists with a view to expanding to allow 7 days working.

The Echocardiography team consists of seven BSE accredited Sonographers. The team complete around 10000 scans per year on a mixture of Inpatients and Outpatients. The Team provides several complex services including Stress and contrast Echo and Physiologist led TOE's.

Our team are involved in a wide range of specialist services including congenital and physiologist-led services. We pride ourselves on actively supporting continual professional development, including regular protected educational session.

WHAT YOU'LL DO...

- Undertake training in echocardiography to British Society of Echocardiography standards as set out by the ETP- Complete a Post-graduate Certificate in Clinical Echocardiography at a nominated University.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR...

There are 3 key attributes we are looking for:- A highly driven and motivated individual who has a committed and in-depth interest in Echocardiography and its application to direct clinical care of patients in a clinical environment- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to be able to work with a variety of people including scientific colleagues, clinical professionals, service managers and patients and to listen to their needs.- Ability to work autonomously in the planning and execution of their own work.

In addition to these attributes, you must hold a 1st or 2:1 degree in a relevant scientific subject or equivalent experience and appropriate underpinning knowledge and skills in cardiology as evidenced for example by appropriate voluntary registration with the Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists or Academy for Healthcare Science.

Applicants must have a 1st or 2.1 Cardiac Physiology (PTP) or a relevant scientific subject (examples include Physiology, Pure or Applied Physics, Biology or Human Biology, or Sports Science (if significant scientific content) or equivalent experience and appropriate underpinning knowledge and skills in cardiology - as evidenced for example by appropriate voluntary registration with the Registration Council for Clinical Physiologists or Academy for Healthcare Science.

Has an understanding of the role of an Echocardiographer in healthcare and disease and its application in a healthcare setting.
