Job summary
The Respiratory service provides inpatient and outpatient care for patients with chronic lung diseases. This role is to provide a comprehensive and high-quality administrative service to the Respiratory department, with a particular focus on supporting the specialist Tuberculosis service.
The most rewarding part of this role is providing a high standard of administrative assistance to the clinical team, other departments and patients.
You will work with very little supervision, prioritising and manging their own workload on a day-to-day basis.
Part time and Flexible working considered; temporary secondment could be available subject to your current managers agreement
Main duties of the job
Communication and working relationships
- This position requires empathy and tact when dealing with patients that may be angry or upset regarding any aspect of their care
- To ensure patients are treated with courtesy, dignity and respect

About us
The Respiratory Department at Torbay Hospital is based in, the Heart and Lung Unit. We are a multi-disciplinary team, we collaborate with other Consultants, Respiratory Physiologists, Nursing Staff, Administrative teams, Specialty Doctors, and Specialist Registrars.
We undertake assessments and investigations, in addition to all aspects of treatment of patients with diseases and defects of the lungs.
You will be joining a supportive and dynamic team, who are committed to continuously improve the service for our patients.

- Good standard of general education to include GCSE in Maths and English or equivalent
- Proven accurate typing
Desirable
- Medical terminology qualification
- Audio typing qualification
- Typing to RSA II/OCR II or equivalent level of speed and accuracy (40wpm)
Knowledge and experience

- Experience in a similar secretarial role
- Ability to use medical terminology appropriately
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office software
- Proven experience of providing a customer focused service
- Proven audio typing experience
- Proven relevant experience in a busy office environment

- Have knowledge of hospital systems, i.e.: PAS, Infoflex, Cyberlab, Unit4
