Job summary

The Education Directorate Business Manager is an exciting role playing a pivotal part in ensuring that the day-to-day operations of our business within the Education Directorate at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust run effectively.

Whether you have a background working in healthcare or you have developed great leadership and business skills in other sectors such as retail, education or hospitality we are keen to hear from you.

The successful candidate will be an accomplished manager, ideally with management experience in the public sector, such as education, academia or healthcare, with demonstrated expertise of finance, HR, and business planning. A high degree of personal organisation and a systematic approach to problem solving is required. The Education Business Manager will have direct responsibility for the business development of the Directorate and the commercial sustainability of its services, keeping the Deputy Director, Education leads and senior managers up-to-date with local and national opportunities and developments to support business and strategic decisions. The postholder is also responsible for providing professional leadership and management of new staff, in partnership with line managers, to enhance overall experience and effectiveness.

Main duties of the job

Business planning and monitoring, including supporting Education Leads with ensuring services are best value for money;

Analysis and data management; interpretation and report writing;

Monitoring workforce recruitment, vacancy gaps and job planning and supporting Education Leads and Managers seeking advice;

Project leadership and support, including complex bid writing through to delivery and evaluation;

Supporting the Horizon Centre Manager in auditing building use and opportunities to support the development of future business cases and capital works;

Leading on the impact and evaluation workstreams ensuring the Education Directorate is successful and can demonstrate its impact;

Supporting bid and grant applications and submission of business cases on behalf of the Directorate and developing income opportunities;

Supporting teams with events that promote education;

Leading on developing and delivering comprehensive Directorate communications, engagement and marketing plans, includingpromotion of the Directorate both internally and externally;

Partnership working and partnership development within the organisation and with external stakeholders and partners;

Contract, Quality Assurance and policy adherence;

Supporting the curriculum and competency design and delivery of management and business learning and development for the Trust.

About us

The Education Business Manager role will provide financial and business management support to the Associate Director, Senior Managers and Education Leads within the Education Directorate.

The Education Directorate is based within the Horizon Centre at Torbay Hospital where NHS England (NHSE) and other commissioned programmes are delivered alongside Trust training and development and other education activities, and Library Services.

  • Business Management qualification / accredited training or equivalent experience.
