Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust

Job summary

We are looking for a candidate to apply for a role as a speciality doctor in dermatology with a view to complete the CESR training pathway.

The successful applicant would be joining a forward looking, expanding dermatology team, who are looking at innovative ways to address the rising local demand across Torbay & South Devon.

The department is experienced in guiding applicants successfully through the CESR process. The post is intended to provide the post holder with the support and training required to successfully complete all aspects of the CESR process.

There will be opportunity for the post holder to be rotated to a neighbouring Trust to address relevant educational and training need. The post is ideally suited to a doctor who envisages completing formal dermatology specialist training within the coming 4-6 years.

Main duties of the job

The job would involve a varied timetable including skin cancer clinics, skin surgery and medical dermatology.

The successful applicant would be working alongside our other CESR trainees and our specialist registrar. Our four consultants will provide day to day supervision as well as a regular teaching program.

The candidate will be encouraged to engage with regional and national dermatology training events and educational meetings. The post is Part time with no on-call requirements.

About us

Torbay and South Devon has a significantly older and ageing population and this demographic of over 65s, which is ahead of some other parts of the country by as much as 20 years, means that healthcare need is expected to increase by 15 to 20 per cent over the next decade.

This increased demand will have to be met within existing resources which means we must seek a sustainable and innovative solution to change the way we provide care.

A major feature of the services we develop will be the promotion of self-care. This will cover the promotion of healthy lifestyles and include support and training of service users and carers in self-management of even the most complex chronic health conditions.

Many of the services will be about supporting people in their lives rather than focusing on ill-health. We will base service development on the life-course model to cover all phases of people's lives, with a particular focus on 'family-centred care'.

Why work with us- Torbay Hospital provides acute care for the local community and has several community hospitals, and is a hot-spot for those who are considering living by the sea or within half an hour of Dartmoor National Park and an hour to Exmoor National Park. Meanwhile, Plymouth and Exeter are also both within a short drive to enjoy the culture, maritime history and shopping experiences.
