We have an exciting opportunity to join our health care of the older person rotation within Physiotherapy at Torbay hospital and our community teams.
This band 6 post will be working to support the management of frail/elderly patients through the hospital and the community
This specialist post will work across our emergency floor and short stay units, health care of the older person wards at Torbay hospital, our ready to go unit and within a community (in a hospital setting or IC team) setting.
You will work alongside other members of the MDT providing Specialized Physiotherapy assessment and management of older patients in healthcare. You will work on the 7 day rota, working approximately one weekend in four. There is no On Call requirement with this post.
Main duties of the job
- To provide a specialized Physiotherapy assessment and treatment plan for healthcare of the older person in a variety of settings, this will include prevention of admission from the community, in AE and short stay units, providing supporting complex discharge from the wards.
- You will be responsible for education to the direct and wider team regarding management of the frail and elderly patient.
- You will be responsible for band 5 Physiotherapists, health care support workers and students. This is a new rotation to our team so the post holder will be expected to look at service development through the acute and community teams

- oWorking knowledge of a broad range of musculoskeletal, neurological and medical conditions common in the elderly
- oKnowledge of the relevant NSFs and clinical guidelines
- oKnowledge and experience of safeguarding of adults' processes
- oKnowledge and experience of the mental capacity act 2005
- oExperience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
- oExperience supervising student physiotherapists or physiotherapy assistant/technical instructors/support workers
- oAn understanding of Clinical Governance and its implications for services, including experience of quality issues and participation in research and audit

- oExperience within the NHS including experience as a Band 5 Physiotherapist in a broad rotational post covering a range of experience in respiratory orthopaedics, elderly care, medical, surgical, neurological and musculoskeletal conditions
