Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Health Improvement Specialist to work in the South Devon Bowel Cancer Screening Centre.

This is initially a fixed term role for 1 year with the expectation of the post becoming permanent if measurable outcomes are delivered.

Whilst this is advertised as a full time position, part time hours would be considered for the right candidate

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a highly motivated person who wishes to progress their career in public health and play a part in addressing the health inequalities and health outcomes within the South Devon Bowel Cancer Screening Centre catchment area of Torbay, Teignbridge, the South Hams and Plymouth.

Together with the Screening Centre Director, Programme Manager and Lead Specialist Screening Practitioner, and in collaboration with the Screening and Immunisation team of NHS England, the post holder will represent the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme within the Trust and externally.

You will need to be an approachable, flexible and committed individual who enjoys developing innovative solutions, as well as being an exceptional communicator with the ability to work positively and collaboratively.

A good understanding of the area and demographics would be desirable.

The post holder will lead on undertaking a health equity assessment for the screening centre, with the aim of developing key stakeholder engagement for the piloting, delivery and evaluation of strategies to reduce barriers and increasing uptake in targeted groups within the screening centres eligible population.

You would be required to work flexibly and agilely with a combination of home based, cross site, community and occasional office based working.

About us

The South Devon Bowel Cancer Screening Centre provides the national screening programme to the eligible population of Torbay, Plymouth, the South Hams and Teignbridge. The Screening Centre is hosted by Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, with screening sites at Torbay and Derriford Hospitals. Our team of Specialist Screening Practitioners work flexibly across both screening sites, with an administrative team at each site.
