We are looking for an inclusive leader, with bags of energy to lead the Employee Relations, Experience and Culture teams and service to the Trust. The successful candidate will lead their teams to embed an inclusive and just and learning culture throughout all employee relations policies and practices. They will do this as they entwine the Employee Relations and Culture teams outputs so that across the Trust we can improve behaviours, improve employee satisfaction, and grow the confidence of all employees to include, listen and act, and lead with courage and curiosity. Working with our Trade Union colleagues is a key leadership responsibility of this role.

The post holder has leadership and managerial responsibility and accountability for the following HR services/workstreams, each of which is led by a capable and motivated band 8a:

  • Employee Relations (All staff groups - Very Senior Managers (VSM), Agenda for Change (AfC) and Medical and Dental, and associated staff side relations
  • Employee Experience and Culture:
    • Medical Workforce HR services
    • Payroll & Pensions
    • Staff Surveys
    • Health and Wellbeing
    • Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI)

Main duties of the job

Lead, through including, listening and acting with courage, a team of 6 capable Band 8As

Work collaboratively as a member of the People Senior Leadership Team to deliver the People Directorate's outputs and deputise for the Chief People Officer as relevant.

Employee relations - for all staff groups

  • Subject matter specialist and expert in Employee Relations best practice and Employment Law, advising the Executive on highly complex employee relations matters,
  • Lead the employment tribunal case load in timely and cost-efficient manner.
  • Lead the approach to Employee Resolution, Advocacy and Mediation, as part of the introduction of a Just and Learning Culture.
  • Strategic lead for human resource support and advice to the Medical Director (MD)

Employee experience, and culture

  • Accountability for the payroll and pension service provided to the Trust
  • Interpretation of payroll and pension policy, application, advice, negotiation, and implementation
  • Drive forward the Embedding an Inclusive Culture plan as part of the wider People Promise work, being accountable forthe Trust's EDI, Health and Wellbeing and Just and Learning programme of work
  • Drive the reduction of absences across the Trust, by improved health and wellbeing awareness, inclusivity, and the confidence of managers to apply the absence policy
  • Drive the development and delivery of action plans resulting from staff survey and staff experience data.
  • Chair the Culture and OD working group
