Job summary

Hutchings Ward are a small team of specialist nurses and GI services consultants providing outpatient care and clinics. We are recruiting for an Assistant Practitioner to join our team on a permanent contract working 36 hours per week to contribute in making a difference. #CaretojoinusTSD

We have varied role including some assisting consultants in clinics and caring for patients undergoing procedures, running outpatient clinic lists and assisting specialist nurses caring for patients in the GI day unit.

You will provide specific care as specified below for a specific client group and will be competent to work across professional disciplines, referring patients for assessment and treatment to other agencies as required; and contribute to the provision of support functions for the Day Case Unit and gastroenterology/ colorectal outpatients/ GI Ward. Elsewhere, undertaking cannulation and administration of defined IV medications under the supervision of Registered Nurse.

Main duties of the job

  • Participate in the development of self and others.
  • Work with the registered nursing staff to maintain a clean, safe and efficient environment for patients and staff
  • Assist colorectal and upper GI surgeons in procedural clinics
  • To be a flexible member of the team working in all areas of the department as and when required covering the units opening hours with the addition of working in outlying areas, including Allerton ward and endoscopy unit.
  • The AP will function at a higher competency level than that that of other Health Care Support workers with responsibility for actively participating as part of the multi-disciplinary team. They will provide a seamless service with minimal supervision from a registered nurse.
