Job summary
As an NHS Organisation, we recognise the important and transformational role that digital technologies have both now and in the future in the way we train, connect, educate and care.
In the Education Directorate we are continually looking at how we can innovate and adapt the way we support our patients and our workforce with the most appropriate tools, methods and platforms.
We know from our experiences to-date that digital and emerging technologies can have a big impact. We are already well-regarded in our work in areas such as XR technology, and this role will help us grow and scale our ambitions.
Our Digital Education team is looking for a highly motivated, knowledgeable, well-organised and innovative person to join them as a Digital Healthcare Fellow.
The purpose of this post-graduate role is to improve patient care through development and implementation of bespoke digital healthcare solutions across clinical departments and the integrated care system.
As work has become more digital and automation has become more common we look upon this role to develop solutions through the use of AI.
This is an exciting role that would see the post-holder having hands-on healthcare work while also supporting other users with digital technologies being introduced through guidance, knowledge exchange, training, workshops and education to patients, staff and partners.
Main duties of the job
- The primary purpose of this role is to support and facilitate the implementation and development of digital health care solutions.
- This will include supporting research, prototyping and engagement by providing technical and clinical expertise, and supporting custom content creation

- Provide summary reports to line manager, governance groups, innovation team and Trust executives
- Support presentation of findings at regional and national digital education conferences, alongside the Digital Futures team
- Support the development of research into adoption of AI and in uses within healthcare
- Develop & Deliver teaching sessions to Clinical Teams such as XR Deep Dives
- Work autonomously when required and lead on projects as directed by the Digital Innovation Facilitator
About us
We are a forward-thinking, progressive department and we value the contributions of all team members.
The Digital Innovation Team works side-by-side with the Trust's Digital Education team known as 'Digital Horizons' to ensure there is consistency across the digital journey.
Digital Futures is a program that built on the VR lab that was created in 2016 which was partially Health Education England (HEE) funded. In 2019, a grant from HEE enabled the Trust to build the Digital Futures Innovation Lab / Hub and design the Digital Futures Deep Dive program.
The Hub is based in the Horizon Centre at Torbay Hospital. The lab contains HoloLens, VR set ups, a green screen, 3D printers, and 360 LiDAR scanners so we can create our own content.
The idea is to pair digital experts with clinicians to develop bespoke healthcare solutions organically within patient care pathways with the users involved from the very first level.
We are training our staff and teams through deep-dive sessions and then facilitating and supporting them using the technology to create innovative bespoke solutions within their own care pathways with their patients and whole teams.
The post holder will be line-managed by the Digital Innovation Facilitator but will work closely with a number of leads within Education as well as the Digital Futures Clinical Lead.
The role will be based in the Horizon Building within the Digital Futures team.
