Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for the role of a PA in Respiratory Medicine at Torbay hospital.
The PA role involves working alongside the Respiratory Lead for Virtual Wards and Pleural service as we expand the care of patients in their own homes who would previously have been admitted and improve the ability within the team to undertake specific diagnostic testing and procedures.
They will assist with set up and management of the Virtual Ward, assess and examine patients, initiate and interpret investigations, make recommendations as well as implement agreed treatment plans and discharge protocols. They will be expected to liaise with other professionals and specialities as required and complete necessary documentation relating to their patients. They will also be offered specific training in ultrasound-guided pleural procedures and ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration of nodes, with a view to performing these independently. They will partake in future service development projects including audit and research around pleural disease and ambulatory/virtual care.
Main duties of the job
- Management and coordination of Virtual Ward
- Outpatient clinics - mostly 2WW Lung cancer clinic/pleural clinic(2/week)
- Inpatient review of patients requiring procedures
- Occasional ward cover on Respiratory ward (to support junior doctors)
- Attendance at Lung MDT and Virtual Ward meetings
- Attendance and contribution at regular scheduled Respiratory teaching (x-ray meeting/Journal club/case discussions.

- The post holder has a personal obligation to act to reduce healthcare associated infections (HCAIs). They must attend mandatory training in Infection Control and be compliant with all measures required by the Trust to reduce HCAIs.
