Are you interested in working in a newly built Surgical Receiving Unit (SRU)?

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our team providing a high-quality, person-centred service.

The Surgical unit (SRU) receives patients for assessment from GP practices, the Emergency Department, Consultant clinic and other primary care settings. The role of the HCA will to be assist the nursing team in ensuring that patients have a smooth journey through the unit. You will be expected to assist with taking blood, recording observations and recording ECGs. You will ensure that patients are welcomed onto the unit and that whilst they are here that they are at the centre of all care that you give.

SRU is a friendly and supportive place to work with a very fast pace due to taking emergency admissions and having many patients pass through the unit 7 days a week. We are looking for an experienced and motivated Band 2 Healthcare Assistant to join the team, who has an interest in emergency general surgery. Currently the shifts are days. twilights and nights and you will be expected to work a mixture.

A passion for the delivery of high-quality care is essential for supporting the patients who pass through the unit.

Interpersonal and communication skills are imperative

Main duties of the job

The role of the HCA within the Surgical Receiving Unit is to help assist the nursing staff with the care and standards for looking after patients. When patients' arrive at the unit, they are greeted by the ward clerk and then it is the job of the healthcare assistant along with the nurses to collect all information and tests that are needed so that when the doctors see the patients they have as much information available to them as possible. The HCA also helps patient with personal care as well as being able to take observation, ECGs and do venepuncture and cannulation.
