If your answer is Yes, then Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust is offering an exciting employment opportunity for you to undertake a Return to Practice Programme, in collaboration with the University of Plymouth.
Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust are looking for motivated, enthusiastic and passionate Midwives and Nurses with a lapsed registration.
We currently have vacancies for Return to Practice Midwives and Registered Nurses within the Trust, and are particularly keen to hear from Midwives, and Nurses with an interest or background in Cancer Nursing (haematology/oncology) and systematic anti-cancer therapy (SACT) - although applications from all backgrounds are encouraged.
Please note the return to practice pathway can be offered as either an Honorary contract or as Bank work.
Main duties of the job
- Communicate effectively with colleagues across the MDT, providing clear verbal, digital or written information and instructions
- Communicate effectively across a range of channels and with a wide range of individuals, the public, health and social care professionals, maintaining the focus of communication on delivering and improving health and care services
- Contribute to ongoing patient/ service user assessment under delegation from a Registered Nurse or Midwife , recognising when it is necessary to refer to others for reassessment
- Follow treatment plans determined by the Registered Nurse, Midwife or registered care professional
- Identify risks to safety or experience and take appropriate action, putting the best interests, needs and preferences of people first.

The role of the Return to Practice Nurse is to complete a set number of Clinical Practice Hours, 450 hours under the new NMC Guidelines, and attend all mandated university days.
Over the course of the clinical practice hours the returnee is expected to achieve a level of proficiency suitable with re-entry onto the NMC Register.
- Demonstrate inter-personal skills that promote clarity, compassion, empathy, respect and trust
- Provide an opportunity and respond to patients and carers to enable them to express their feelings, whilst encouraging acceptance and adjustment to their new circumstances.
- To ensure respect is given to customs, values and spiritual beliefs of patients, carers and relatives
- To act with professionalism and integrity, being a role model to those around us and ensuring everyone has an equal opportunity.
- Ensure all patient related information is treated sensitively and adhere to the principles of confidentiality at all times
- support people to improve and maintain their mental, physical, behavioural health and wellbeing
- To act as the patient's advocate and, by providing information and support, facilitate the patient's own choices in conjunction with carers and other agencies where relevant.
