Job summary
We are looking to appoint a dynamic, flexible and forward-thinking doctor with an interest in Palliative Care. This locum Registrar position in the department of Palliative Care is available for a period of 6 months from 1st December 2023. This is a full time post and covers a period of parental leave. This post would suit someone seeking further palliative medicine experience prior to applying for a Palliative Medicine training programme.
Main duties of the job
This will depend upon the level of experience of the successful post holder but may include:
Rowcroft Hospice
- Day to day clinical responsibility for the 12 inpatients under the supervision of Dr George Walker, Dr Sarah Human and Dr Fay Murray-Brown.
- To contribute to palliative medicine outpatient clinics and domiciliary visits
- To contribute to meetings with the Community Specialist Palliative Care MDT
- To supervise and teach junior medical staff and students
- To contribute to the hospice in-house educational programme
- To contribute to the hospice clinical audit programme
Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust
- To work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team
- Assessment of patients in Torbay hospital and the provision of advice on symptom control to the doctors responsible for those patients
- To contribute to palliative medicine outpatient clinics

Qualifications and training
Essential
- oFull registration and Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council.
- Completed foundation and Internal Medicine Stage 1 training or GP training programme
- oMember of a recognised medical defence union.
- oMRCGP or MRCP (Parts 1 and 2 required & PACES desirable but would consider applicant working towards PACES if not yet achieved)
- oEnthusiasm for Palliative Care
Desirable
- oHigher qualification, eg Cert Med Ed
- oDesire to work towards a qualification in palliative care eg palliative care diploma
