We are looking for a confident, competent colleague to work in Torbay & South Devon Community Dental Service and join our dedicated dental team. The main focus of the service is Special Care Dentistry with all the accompanying aspects. All our dentists are expected to provide some urgent care to local people who cannot otherwise access dental care. More details can be found in the Job Description.

Accredited supervised clinical practice in provision of treatment with Conscious Sedation both Inhalation and Intravenous is available in order to support independent practice in Conscious Sedation.

Main duties of the job
Working alongside a dedicated and motivated team you will be responsible for the provision of dental care for patients of all ages who have additional needs. All dentists contracted to work in the CDS are responsible for complying with the requirements of the Terms & Conditions of Salaried Primary Dental Care Services (England) January 2008 and any later amendments. This includes, among other requirements, the requirement to evidence the set of competencies appropriate to the role of each individual dentist, as stated in schedule 7 of the full Terms & Conditions.
A primary dental qualification i.e BDS registered with the General Dental Council of the UK or equivalent is essential for this post along with an NHS performer number.
The candidate must be able to communicate effectively with tact and diplomacy on a daily basis and must be able to communicate effectively with:

Other professionals within clinics, hospital, special schools etc.
Support /Clerical staff
Management and other disciplines
Patients/Relatives/Carers

At full establishment Community Dental Service will have a clinical team comprised of whole time equivalents (wte):
1.0 Clinical Director,
4.7 Band B Dentists
1.4 Dental Therapists
Patients self-refer and are referred from other health care professionals to the service. The CDS also facilitates access to oral care services for vulnerable and disadvantaged people.
Oral care is delivered via two fixed bases in Torbay and Newton Abbot, the day surgery unit at Torbay Hospital, a self-drive Mobile Dental Unit (MDU), and domiciliary care for those who fit the remit of the service.

- Undertake full range of treatment for adults and children whose additional needs have prevented them from accessing dental care through the General Dental Services.
- provide urgent dental care for patients who have been unable to access treatment with a GDP to resolve acute problems appropriately, this includes extractions and permanent restorations if applicable.
- provide clinical leadership and management support for the dental teams.
- Responsible for delivering oral care via inhalation sedation, intravenous sedation and comprehensive oral care via general anaesthesia
- To provide treatment on a domiciliary basis if required
- Has sufficient knowledge and experience of the legislative framework to provide advice or support on such matters to other members of the dental team
- Has sufficient knowledge and experience of the financial framework to provide advice or support on such matters to other members of the dental team
- demonstrate an additional skill in restorative or other dental treatment such as prosthetics/oral surgery etc
- Understands responsibility for health and safety issues and can advise others in the service on these issues
- Participates in and leads teams
- Other duties as may from time to time be delegated by the Clinical Director in order to ensure smooth running of the service
