Job summary

We are looking for individuals who are dedicated, flexible; thrive on variety and willing to learn new skills. You will be working within a multi-disciplinary team and must have a positive and proactive approach to work.

You will also need excellent time management skills as training consists of block release and on-line University course content and completion of a work based training portfolio.

You will also need to meet the course entry requirements -

  • GCSEs that must include grade C or grade 4 in English Language, Science and Mathematics.
  • A Level - a minimum of 112 points to include Grade C or above in Biology, plus a pass in another science subject.
  • Equivalent qualifications or professional experience may also be accepted.

These are full time posts working 37.5 hours per week Monday - Friday 9am-5pm

Main duties of the job

The Vacancy is based at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust. The department offers a comprehensive range of Cardiac and Respiratory investigations, both invasive and non-invasive and we work closely with our Consultants providing diagnostic support.

This exciting post combines in house training and 3 years part time, funded study at UWE Bristol to obtain a BSc in Healthcare Science Physiological Science (Please see attached link with further information).

  • You will be supported by senior staff with experience in supporting in house and placement students from local universities.
  • You will gain experience in diagnostic testing and management of patients with cardiac and Respiratory disorders including those patients seen in an emergency setting.

Job responsibilities

  • To undertake a development programme leading to a National Standard/ Framework as part of an apprenticeship
  • To actively participate in their own development plan, which will be agreed with the line manager and the training provider
  • Complete the Apprenticeships Standard/Framework within the agreed timescales
  • To provide the correct up to date information to patients, colleagues, other departments within the Trust, external organisations and the general public
  • Under supervision actively participate in performing a range of cardiac investigations to include; ECGs, Holter and extended monitoring and analysis, Exercise stress tests, pacemaker follow-up, pacemaker implants and Haemodynamic monitoring for a range of invasive cathlab procedures
  • Perform cardiac physiological measurements in accordance with SCST/RCCP National Guidelines with appropriate supervision
  • To ensure high standards of patient care are given in relation to agreed standards and in line with the SDHFT Policies and Procedures
  • Manage workload to enable successful completion of all University set work and work-based training portfolio within agreed time limits
  • Ensure documentation is maintained consistently and clearly to support the provision of care
