Job summary

We are looking for a positive, forward thinking team player to co-ordinate and deliver user training for infusion devices and other key medical equipment. This is an interesting and varied role, offering a good development opportunity. You will need to relate well to nursing, medical, and other healthcare staff at all levels, and have an ability for inspiring safety and quality.

You will play a key role in ensuring the optimal and safe application and safe use of medical devices across the Trust, working closely with a diverse range of clinical services and clinical professionals. This role would suit a professionally registered nurse, or other allied healthcare professional, or a non-registered healthcare professional with experience in the safe use of medical devices and a good understanding of medical device issues from the perspectives of clinical colleagues, patients and carers.

You will be supported and working with the Medical Devices Education and Training. You will be contributing to and developing a robust blended learning strategy to meet the needs of the organisation, clinical and non-clinical users.

You will be working with multi-disciplinary skilled team across Torbay and South Devon NHS Trust and will have the opportunity to make a real difference. To be successful in this role, you will need the ability to plan your own work load, and make good decisions about priorities and be prepared to reprioritise as required.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for delivering high quality medical devices education and training to staff on a wide spectrum of medical devices; raging from basic to the very complex diagnostic and therapeutic equipment used across the ICO. This will involve targeting the learners needs and expectations, using a variety of education and training strategies.

The post holder is responsible:

  • for working collaboratively with the digital education team to produce high quality digital learning products to support blended learning.
  • for contributing to all relevant medical devices education and training policies and protocols and will reflect these in all aspects of their work.
  • for reviewing medical devices education and training plan to ensure compliance to statutory legislation, broad national guidelines, and to meet individual learning needs of staff.

The post holder will:

  • to manage their own workload, this will work involve prioritising and reprioritising workloads.
  • deputise for the Medical Devices Education and Training Lead as required.
  • maintain all relevant medical device education and training record keeping and undertake audits as required.
  • assist the Medical Devices Safety Officer Team.
  • line manage the MLD and its assets.

About us

The Medical Devices Support Services provides a comprehensive management & technical support service for a broad spectrum of medical devices used throughout the health, care and social community. We are currently developing networks with scientific and laboratory services across Devon with our new Scientific, Laboratory Equipment Support section.

You will be working with multi-disciplinary skilled team across Torbay and South Devon NHS Trust and will have the opportunity to make a real difference. To be successful in this role, you will need the ability to plan your own work load, and make good decisions about priorities and be prepared to reprioritise as required.

In addition, your role will extend beyond training to include co-ordinating new medical device/ equipment rollouts and all aspects of medical device use, including providing advice, and responding to incidents. Also, you will have management responsibility for the Medical Devices Library.

You will be part of Medical Devices Support Services at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust and your main base will be at Torbay Hospital.
