Job summary
We are delighted to have the opportunity to expand and redesign our existing Consultant Colorectal team. We are looking for a motivated and skilled individual to join our busy, friendly and innovative department. Excellent communication and team working is essential. The successful applicant will join our team of 12 Consultant General Surgeons (6 Upper and 6 Lower GI).
This is a substantive post and you will join six existing colorectal Consultants. The services provided include the diagnosis and treatment of the full range of colorectal disease as well as the management of the acute on-call service.
Main duties of the job
This post is offered on a full-time basis and is available as soon as possible. The role has been created to meet the increasing needs of the service. You will be contracted to 10 programmed activities per week.
You will need to demonstrate professional excellence and ability to deliver effective care.
Applicants should possess or be within six months of attaining a UK CCT or equivalent at the time of the advisory appointments committee.

Essential
- Entry on Specialist Register
- CCT (must be within 6 months of interview)
- CESR or European Community Rights
- Success in intercollegiate Speciality Examination or Overseas equivalent
- Full GMC with licence to practice
- Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCST in General Surgery.
- Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems both emergency and elective within Colorectal and General Surgery.
- Ability to take full independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
- Experience in management of Colorectal cancer
- Willing and able to work to guidelines and group discussions
- Ability to advise on efficient and smooth running of the General Surgical Service
- Ability to organise and manage outpatient priorities, surgical waiting lists and operating lists
- Ability to manage and lead surgical firm
- Ability to teach clinical and operative skills
- Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical and surgical problems
- Desire to continue to audit practice
